Guitar Instruction

lessonsHello prospective students!  I accept all different levels of enthusiastic guitar students.  Having taught full time now for over 10 years, my lessons are organized so that RESULTS ARE OBVIOUS and always geared towards the student’s eventual discovery of their own musical personality.  You would be hard pressed to find someone with more styles under their fingers and more insight into the best methods to keep improving.

My weekly lessons’ emphasis on the daily practice of technical studies, reading music, knowledge of repetoire, and eventually music theory, is tried and true.  I have also compiled a vast array of lessons and accurate song transcriptions already neatly written out and saved in PDF files.  These will be emailed to the student each lesson.  Spending half the time writing out the SAME lessons each day is wasteful and a sure sign of a lazy teacher.  We will spend that time playing and refining your technique, saving time and TREES along the way.

Though I am not one of these “send you home with an AC/DC song and call it a day” type guitar “teachers”, I always make note of each student’s personal tastes and use that as a method for motivation.  Everyone learns in different ways.  I emphasize each student’s unique strengths to help them through those tough times along the way, when they never think they will get it.  Only a stubborn teacher thinks there is one way to play the guitar.  You can’t play Jimi Hendrix with the technique of Andres Segovia!  A firm understanding of many musical traditions, knowing the proper technique for the job, a positive attitude, my organization of the lessons, and above all, a passionate love of music…these are what set me apart from most guitar teachers.

So, whether you are an advanced player looking to take things to the next level, or a parent searching for a reliable teacher to inspire and lay a solid musical foundation for your young child, I have the experience, the patience, and the sense of humor necessary to keep my students interested, motivated, and laughing along the way.  Playing music is a lifelong process.  I have learned just as much from teaching as I have from my own practice.  Please contact me for information on available times/rates.  I look forward to talking with you.
